Deix Archive
Original Works Annotated and Curated
22.02.2025 - 01.02.2026
Party leaders in a bloody boxing match, and then as a bride and groom, an Elvis impersonator and football players in fetish jerseys: such motifs such can be found in the Deix Archive 2025.
The Karikaturmuseum Krems’s in-house Deix archive offers viewers the unique opportunity to view over sixty of the exceptional artist’s works up close.
In 2024, the Deix archive will focus on the anniversary show I Love Deix. In addition to the young, prominent, edgy, political, strident, devout, and erotic Deix, one of the artist’s favorite subjects will also be on display: politician Jörg Haider. No other caricaturist has him depicted in so many different situations and roles. Works from the 1970s, when Deix increasingly worked with ink, and sophisticated watercolors from the 1980s, also provide the chance to admire his works. Treasures from the State Collections of Lower Austria that have not been shown for some time round out the Deix Archive in 2024.
Discover Originals in Archive Cabinets
The in-house Deix Archive offers visitors the unique opportunity to view up close around sixty originals by the exceptional artist. The Deix Archive is located on the ground floor of the Karikaturmuseum at the back of the large exhibition space. The valuable caricatures, drawings, and illustrations are kept in archive cabinets. The treasures are revealed when pulling out the archive drawers.
Deix and Pammesberger
In 2025, the Deix Archive references the two special exhibitions Planet Pammesberger and Forest Longing. Manfred Deix has been an integral part of Austrian caricature since the late 1970s. The artist Michael Pammesberger, who currently works for the Kurier, has been following domestic politics with his illustrations since the early 1990s. The Deix Archive 2025 presents well-known Austrian politicians from the last few decades such as Bruno Kreisky, Alois Mock, Fred Sinowatz, Josef Pröll, and Werner Faymann.
