Adolf Frohner (1934–2007) is known for his expressive paintings, sculptures, and drawings. He is one of the most important Austrian artists of post-war modernism. The fall exhibition at Forum Frohner focuses on his late work.
Committed to Painting
Here the master of the spontaneous gesture outdid himself once again, creating large-format paintings that open up a new perspective on the subject of the figure and painting. In the 1980s and 1990s in particular, Frohner responded to current discourses with his color-intensive works in red, black, and white, whose themes revolve around human existence.
Wild Painting
Wild painting flourishes in his work. With the multi-part, monumental series Schmetterling metamorph (Butterfly Metamorphic), Frohner takes up the theme of transformation as a life principle using the symbol of the butterfly, creating an important new interpretation of the expressive. The show offers an overview of this creative period for the first time.
