tarting in May 2022, the State’s art treasures will take centre stage when an entertaining tour through the past 60 years of Austria’s art history takes visitors across two floors of the State Gallery of Lower Austria.

FROM THE ART DEPOSITORY TO THE EXHIBITION SPACE

One glance at the depository of the State Collections of Lower Austria is enough to make you gush: The collection’s division dedicated to “Art after 1960“ includes over 72,000 works and is marked by a broad diversity of artistic media.
The presentation of the permanent collection will display large-scale paintings and sculptural works as well as time-based media, most of which will be on view for the first time. The items will be installed in generously interpreted groups of contextual, stylistic, and formal associations.

WELL-KNOWN AND LESSER-KNOWN POSITIONS OF AUSTRIAN CONTEMPORARY ART

From Ona B. to Leo Zogmayer—the roughly 100 selected artists feature well-known representatives of Austrian contemporary art but also artistic positions that are little known and yet to be discovered.
