In her 2008 film Somewhere in the World, Pélagie Gbaguidi deals with the definition of cultural codes and their sociographic classification. “Who defined boundaries? What are their limits?” she asks in her critically humorous work. The work of the Senegal-born, Brussels-based artist, who worked in Krems in 2007 as part of the AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria program, forms the conceptual starting point of the exhibition, which develops around the confrontation between the regional and the global. The concept of place and its cultural classification, the focus of the exhibition, are critically reflected and ironized.

The exhibition thus embarks on a search for traces of artistic positions that stand in the interrelationship between two localities. The focus is on the artistic reception of the African-Lower Austrian encounters and is viewed from different angles. Thematic, historical and personal approaches will be presented.
