Alejandra Cardenas (Ale Hop) & Ignacio Briceno
BIO
Born in Lima, Peru, artist, researcher and experimental musician Alejandra Cardenas is also known as Ale Hop and lives in Berlin. She holds a BA in Art History, a Masters in Sound Studies and a degree in History of Science and Technology and is a PhD candidate at the Berlin University of the Arts. Her work includes live shows, record releases, sound and video artworks, research on sound and technology, and original music for film and dance. Her careful approach to the themes she explores in her pieces is constantly influenced by her background as a researcher. She has presented her work at international institutions and festivals such as Sonic Acts, CTM Festival, New York's Museum of Arts and Design, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and many more.
Her longtime collaboration partner is the artist and composer Ignacio Briceno, also from Peru. He has combined his academic background in literature with a self-taught career in music and art, focusing on the interrelation between performing arts and discourse analysis. From 2008 - 2018 he was the frontman of the punk band Cocaína and collaborates with artists from different disciplines.
Together they have, among others, realized the radiophonic artwork "Quién hace tanta bulla" (Lumpen Station), the video artwork "Deep Panic" (CSSP vol.2), original music and sound design for the dance performance "#MYBODYMYCHOICE" (presented at Funkhaus, Berlin).
