BIO

Although you’ll rarely find human figures in my paintings, human beings have clearly shaped the depicted landscapes and their perception.

For a long time my work has revolved a lot around the Lower Austrian landscape and its characteristic buildings. Such as silos which are typical for some areas or such as roads, which make the countryside accessible by cutting through it. Also urban sprawl and recent floods have been subjects of my work.

In my paintings I take the onlookers on a trip to the countryside where I direct their attention towards objects, which they usually wouldn’t notice or wouldn’t want to notice. During my excursions I document my impressions with my camera. Later on, in my studio, I might use some of them as starting points for my paintings. I paint these ‘blind spots’ – such as highway bridges, check points (along the former Iron Curtain), silos, wind generators, radio towers and lifts – with acrylic and spray paint on canvas or on paper. By using duct tape I create hard edges.

I’m planning a similar approach regarding the landscape around Örnsköldsvik und look forward to discovering its characteristics and its beauty.
