Ferenc Barnás

BIO

Ferenc Barnás was born in 1959 in Debrecen, Hungary. He is the author of five novels and has received four of Hungary’s highest literary honors: the Sándor Márai Prize, the Tibor Déry Prize, the AEGON Prize, and the Milán Füst Prize. His third novel, The Ninth (Northwestern UP), was longlisted for the Best Translated Book Award (USA) and the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. His fourth novel, Other Death, was chosen as the Best Book of the Year (2013) in Hungary. His latest novel, To the Ends of Our Lives, was published by Schöffling Verlag in 2022.

He has been the recipient of artist residencies from MacDowell, Yaddo, and the Edward F. Albee Foundation, among others. His novels have been translated into several languages, including English, German, and French. He now lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he is working on his sixth novel.
