REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP
The studio flats and scholarships are assigned under the premise of enabling foreign artists to work in Lower Austria and to get to know different cultural institutions in this state. By bringing the invited foreign artists into contact with the local art scene, AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria aims to contribute to the internationalisation of art in our country and promote a process of interdisciplinary exchange in the field of arts. As international exchange is primarily realised on an institutional level, private applications can only be accepted in the course of our annual call for applications.
The basic condition for a grant is a subject-specific completed artistic education (university degree). In the absence of an academic degree, a corresponding qualification must be demonstrated through an artistic career. In any case, regular artistic activity in the areas to be funded must be proven. Applications from the disciplines of architecture, visual arts, digital arts, literature and music will be accepted. Austrian artists and artists residing in Austria are excluded from the selection process. Artist collectives can also apply. However, this does not increase the grant amount of € 1,300.
A specialised advisory board decides on participation in AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria.
SERVICES
A studio and accommodation will be provided free of charge. Furthermore, the scholarship holders receive a monthly stipend of € 1,300.
The costs for travelling to and from the residency, transfers, materials and meals must be covered by the scholarship holders themselves.
Generally, AIR events are realised in cooperation with various Lower Austrian and Viennese art institutions. The aim is to anchor AIR projects in the annual programme of these institutions in the long term. This way, the scholarship holders are also temporarily integrated into the local art scene.
Studios
The five studio flats and the large work and community room were planned and furnished by the Lower Austrian architect Franz Sam. Equipped with a kitchen and bathroom, internet and telephone connection, Wi-Fi, dishwasher, washing machine and electric cooker, they serve as living and working spaces for the artists. The very bright studios vary in size from 45 m² to 120 m². The approx. 120 m² workroom is equipped with tools, television, DVD player, computer, internet connection, printer, photocopier, fax and scanner.
