On the road through the Wachau

In the exhibition “On the Road. Journey into the Collection“, children discover the Wachau with all their senses: Not only with their eyes, but also by smelling different scents and by touching comparative materials such as canvas etc., the works of art can be experienced in a very special way. The children playfully explore how artists have captured the Wachau and what stories are hidden in the pictures. 

The Wachau is not only an impressive landscape, but also a source of inspiration for many artists. To mark 25 years of the Wachau as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the children embark on an interactive journey through the works of art that focus on this unique region, becoming artists themselves during the creative part of the 90-minute tour. Using colored pencils and paper, they create their own Wachau paintings. What colors characterize the landscape? How can the light, Danube and hills be captured? Inspired by the works of art and their own experiences, they create individual pictures that reflect the children's personal view of the Wachau.
