Manfred Deix's cartoons unfold their full potential in the original. Technically masterfully executed, their content is a timelessly evil swan song about the Austrian soul.
Gottfried Gusenbauer, artistic director of the Karikaturmuseum Krems

Manfred Deix (1949-2016) remains unforgotten! The exhibition A real Deix - Unforgotten! 70 Years of Manfred Deix from 03.02.2019 - 02.02.2020 is a relentless journey through time into the depths of the Austrian soul. The enfant terrible of the caricature scene provokes, shocks and shakes up social taboos like few Austrian artists before him. Manfred Deix would have been 70 years old in 2019. To commemorate this, a large illustrated book "Forever Deix - Der Jubelband" (Ueberreuter Verlag) and a new permanent exhibition with over 120 original cartoons from the Lower Austrian State Collections were published. A special highlight is The Seven Deadly Sins by Deix, which have not been shown in their original form for several years. The seven deadly sins, with all their human shortcomings, have inspired many artists to create their own picture cycles, the most famous being the copperplate engravings by Pieter Brueghel the Elder.  The Austrian, Deix version illustrates a colorful crowd of Deix figures: the proud cock of the walk, the stingy "fat boy", people filled with penis envy, anger and lust.
