Angerer's Nibelungenlied

The Karikaturmuseum Krems presents the Nibelungen saga in a completely different way, namely from the light-hearted perspective of cartoonist Rudolf Angerer. Angerer's cartoon version of the Nibelungen saga dates from the early 1970s and is presented like a picture book full of black humor. The show features 25 originals from the collections of the Province of Lower Austria.

The Song of the Nibelungs is probably the most important German heroic epic of the Middle Ages. The manuscript by an unknown author was written in Middle High German and originated in the 12th century in the Danube region, presumably in the area between Passau and Vienna. The Song of the Nibelungs is considered the oldest written account of the Nibelung saga, which has survived in different versions with varying emphases.
