"That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."

On July 21st, 1969, this sentence changed the view of the world and the cosmos. Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the moon and gained world fame with the media airing of his proclamation.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, the Karikaturmuseum Krems will show the exhibition Race to the Moon! The fantastic world of science fiction from 23.02.2019 to 27.10.2019. The exhibition uses historical caricatures and documentaries to show the race into space between the US and the former USSR. This battle-like, staged arms race of technological developments in space travel could be followed in many comics, illustrations and cartoons at the time.

Many science fiction series emerged against this backdrop in the early 1960s, which also gave birth to Perry Rhodan’s series of novels that were fantastically illustrated in detail by Johnny Bruck. Children's book illustrations by Torben Kuhlmann, superhero comics by ASH - Austrian Superheroes Comics, comic covers by Michaela Konrad, and satirical TV samples by Kurt Razelli were also dedicated to this memorable event. The astronomer and Science Buster Florian Freistetter presents incredible information with a scientifically sound background on the moon and cosmos.
