The Frohner-Cake
Sind Sie schon einmal in den Genuss der „Frohner Torte“ gekommen? The Frohner Cake
Have you ever had the pleasure of enjoying the Frohner Torte?
Frohner’s favorite torte goes back to the famous square-shaped Imperial Torte of the Hotel Imperial in Vienna, whose first leaseholder was Johann Frohner, a relative of Adolf Frohner. It was created for Emperor Franz Joseph I to celebrate the opening of the hotel and is still made today following a secret recipe of almonds, marzipan, and milk chocolate.
The secret recipe for the Imperial Torte remains a mystery. However, it inspired us to create a recipe for a cake that is served on special occasions and openings at the Forum Frohner. For all baking professionals, beginners, and connoisseurs—like Adolf Frohner was—we are happy to reveal our little baking secret.
First, it is best to start by putting on an apron to avoid chocolate stains on your clothes. Blend together until creamy 150 grams of butter, 120 grams of sugar, 150 grams of softened chocolate, and 3 egg yolks. Grate 10 coffee beans and mix them with 150 grams of grated almonds, 50 grams of flour and the beaten egg whites of 3 eggs. Then carefully fold the combined ingredients into the butter mixture. If you like, you can also add a dash of cognac or treat yourself to a sip. Pour the mixture into a greased cake tin, sprinkle the cake with 50 grams of sliced almonds and bake slowly.
The team at Forum Frohner wishes you every success!
