Program
The Kunsthalle Krems is the premier exhibition venue for international art in Lower Austria. The program encompasses art from 1945 to the present day, with a special focus on contemporary art. The Kunsthalle Krems functions as a platform for engaging with innovative, multimedia, and socially relevant positions, as well as specific contributions to art. Themes concerning diversity, gender, and feminism are of particular importance.
Both comprehensive, themed and solo exhibitions are presented. One priority is developing exhibitions in conjunction with the artists. Also shown are exhibitions featuring private collections of international modern and contemporary art.
The variety of media presented ranges from classic disciplines such as painting, drawing, and sculpture, to photography, video, film, and performance, to installations, conceptual, and new media disciplines.
Art in public space
The outdoor area in front of the Kunsthalle Krems is used for presenting art in public space. Sculpture projects and related events invigorate the Museumsplatz on Kunstmeile Krems.
Art in sacred architecture
Since 2017, the Kunsthalle Krems has presented exhibitions inside the Dominikanerkirche in Krems as an additional, seasonal exhibition venue. The focus here is on projects that deal with the space of the sacral Gothic architecture.
Collaborations
The Kunsthalle Krems is a partner of the international residency program AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Niederösterreich and serves as a venue for presenting the projects of its guest artists.
The annual collaboration with the donaufestival allows the Kunsthalle Krems to spotlight its interdisciplinary and progressive orientation. The donaufestival initiates art projects that are performative in nature and which culminate in installation-based exhibition formats.
