In 2017, the Forum Frohner is celebrating its tenth anniversary. To mark the occasion, it is showing a previously unknown private collection: the Gabriel Collection. The Viennese collector couple Harald and Mechtilde Gabriel met Adolf Frohner in the 1960s through the gallery owner Erich Gabriel, a cousin of Harald. At the time, Frohner had his studio in Paradisgasse in Vienna's 19th district, right next door to the Gabriels. A close relationship developed and the young couple began to collect works by their artist friend. Over the course of a few decades, an extensive collection developed, which primarily concentrates on the work of Adolf Frohner, according to the motto “Focus Frohner”.
The personal selection represents an extensive cross-section of graphics, prints, paintings, objects, posters and documentary material. The focus is on works from the 1960s and 1970s. Key works from this creative period and rarities provide a new insight into Adolf Frohner's work.
The Gabriel Collection was discovered during research for the catalog raisonné of Adolf Frohner's paintings, which, after several years of work, is now being published for the anniversary of the Forum Frohner and will be presented at the exhibition. The opening and presentation will be followed by an anniversary celebration at the Forum Frohner.
