Gerhard Haderer

Expanding on the exhibition Spot on! the Karikaturmuseum Krems shows works by Gerhard Haderer from the State Collections of Lower Austria.

Haderer achieved great fame with his political cartoons. These have been published since 1985 in various print media, including the magazine Profil, Oberösterreichische Nachrichten (the Upper Austrian News) and the German weekly magazine Stern.

Haderer's ingenious cartoons - usually done in acrylic ink and perfected artistically down to the smallest detail - skilfully hold up their mirror to society, exposing abuses and thoughts of omnipotence. The Austrian artist’s work can be understood as an account of taboos and double standards, but also as a chronicle of past years with all their highlights, adversities and scandals.
